Korn Guitarist Brian Welch Leaves Anger Behind, Follows God

Published: 2005-02-23
California-based heavy metal band, Korn have recently given their blessing to guitarist Brian Welch. Welch has left the band to concentrate on being a Christian and looks forward to telling people about his revelation. California radio station KRAB-FM reported that Welch will be attending his Bakersfield church this Sunday to tell people "how I got to this place in my life, and I'll answer all of your questions."

Although he has now departed from Korn, Welch continues to sing the praises of his former bandmates, "Anger is a good thing, and if kids want to listen to Korn, good, but there's happiness after that anger. I'm going to show it through my actions how much I love my fans."

Korn have fulfilled their contractual obligations with Epic Records as of last year, but are working on their new album. They have issued a statement on their web site that states about Welch, "[We hope] he finds the happiness he is searching for."

There is so much more to life than anger. Sure its great and believe me I feel better for some reason when i am mad and pop in a korn track but there is nothing like Jesus.

Its hard to follow Christ when one has everything, money, fame, you name it. Im happy and excited that Brian Welch has made a wise decision. Most people wont understand why, but if only they gave God a chance in their lives, they would understand Brian very well. Most people tend to fill that void in their lives with things in this world that dont last, they may get joy for a moment, but yet that void is till there. No matter what they do, they still feel empty inside. You dont have to. Give God a chance and you'll get this joy that is everlasting, even through your bad times, this joy will not leave you; Joy UNSPEAKABLE. God so loved us that He gave His Son to die for us, for our depresson, for our sins, our mistakes, that we may live without condamnation, and live in His love till the end. There is much more to life than we can imagine, with God nothing is impossible, He is our provider, our Father, in Him we have everything. Keep up the faith Brian, do what you got to do, God sees your faithfulness and he will bless you for it. Run the race, Keep on Keeping on. Dont let anything discourage you, with God you'll get the victory. IM HAPPY FOR YOU! :-D! We rejoice to see what God has done! Be assured that God is well pleased!

Even though I'm in my 50's, I love Christian heavy metal, punk, etc. because it speaks a powerful message in a powerful way--from and to this generation. I'm so excited to have Brian yield his music gifts to God and can't wait to hear more. Some of these guys are truly modern day prophets with a message of hope and freedom. Anger is a miserable prison and Jesus Christ died to set us free.

There's an old Christian song, "Why should the devil get all the good music" Well he just lost big time!!

I am so happy for Brian!!!!

I live in Bakersfield and attend Valley Bible Fellowship - now Brian's church. I just got home from the first service in which he was giving his testimony. I would just like to say praise God! You know I believe that God will do whatever it takes to get you to know him and for Brian it was a life of "having everything" and still feeling completely empty and then trying to fill that void with drugs and him only finding relief through Jesus Christ. He talked about how he went for help (rehabs) and nothing helped and that the moment he asked the holy spirit to come into his body his whole life changed. It was a beautiful service. There were a lot of people who were saved today because God used someone who has seen and done everything and had no desire to live until he found our Lord. If anyone is interested they can get a cd of the service that Brian spoke in for a few dollars - the church will send it out to you. Their website is www.vbf.org and there will be a phone number there that you can call to request a copy. I love Brian's story - It just shows how our body of Christ continues to move and grow everday!

My favorite band for quite sometime has been KoRn so to see Brian "head" Welch leave it is a little upsetting but he does have to do what he sees best for himself it will be hard to replace him especially since he's been with the band since they started even in LAPD days before Jonathan came along and KoRn was born all i can say is best hopes and wishes to Brian and KoRn Brian hope you have found or will find all your searching for-Chris

I was so pleased to hear the news! I met Brian at a korn signing when I was into angry heavy metal music and since then I have been lifted up by the Lord and placed back into His loving arms. I share Brian's joy and wish him all the best. I am disappointed by some fans' reaction to this, saying that he has been brainwashed and also by Jonathan Davis' remarks that he loves Brian but $*%*% hates religion. Come on guys, lets rejoice for Brian and recognize that if any brainwashing is going on, it's on the part of the others who glorify anger, self mulitation, thoughts of suicide, violence etc. If you are a true fan of Korn, you have to understand that those feelings of angst never really get you anywhere. Let's pray for the other performers in this genre of music, especially Marilyn Manson, and for those in the rap industry, Eminem being on the top of the list. These performers use their hate messages to bring kids into their sick, sad worlds. Say no and purge yourselves of these CD's if you own them.

Praise God for bring another into the fold. I never did listen to Korn. I have nothing against any STYLE of music per se, but lyrical content is very important. It's great to see another famous musician realize the Truth. Maybe Welch can hook up with Neil Morse and make a killer album!

i mean if thats what brian wants to do, i guess let it be, i love korn, the way i cee it is its just music, it aint hurting no one. please dont hate manson and korn, u have a choice in life, listen to it or not, by the way i am not a manson fan or anything, but we live in a free world, where people r able to express what they want.

wow, I attend the Las Vegas version of Valley Bible Fellowship and knew of this for about a month. There is such a peace that Brian is feeling right now, Such a weight lifted off his shoulders. I know this feeling very well having gone through a custody battle for my wife, God carrying us the whole way. I believe we need to pray for every individual who is here who negativly reacts to this news. For if these people open the book of life there eyes will open. What they need is to hit rock bottom and call out for their salvation. Brian thank you for what you did today.

All glory to God for this! This is definatly going to be my highlight for the early part of this year. I can't wait to see what he does (if anythingthis relates to James 4:13).

Praise the Lord!!!

I used to be a huge KORN fan until I accepted Christ. I still listened to them for a while until i realized how bad their message was. I started praying that Johnathan Davis would except Christ so that kids into that music would be led to Jesus by one of their own. I'm so happy that Head was saved and I will still pray for the other band members. This is a great day! Praise God!

this is wild. i just recently got into rehab and decided to quit my old lifestyle. I am already a Christain so to hear that Head is too is awesome cuz he's been my favorite member of Korn since way back. Im sad he's leaving the band though. I wish he could get Jon to write more positive lyrics. it would be a refreshing change from their last album which i really did not like. I hope Head's new stuff has some edge to it musically though.

The purge of sin is on!!!!! Satan is a weakling... Jesus overcame the sting of death on the cross and Satan can only cower in fright of the day that Michael the archangel is sent to take care of him!! Praise God for your salvation Brian...Jesus loved us first before any of us ever loved Him, while we were yet sinners. There isn't any sin that Jesus can't atone for except those for which a proud man is unwilling to seek and ask forgiveness!!! Every knee shall bow and every tongue WILL confess that He is Lord!!!!

The harvest is great but the workers are few. May God continue to reap in a harvest of people just like brian. i pray that we all realize that it is our job to be the workers. i pray that God blesses his ministry. Prayer changes things. Just to see how much prayer changes things check out this book Fresh Wind,Fresh Fire by Jim Cymbala. lift brain up in your prayers because he will be going through a lot of rough stuff.

Praise the Lord!!!! I'm so happy to hear that Brian Welch has made the best decision of his life. The Lord accepts all who confess their sin to Him and want to be cleansed in His Blood. I use to be a fan of KORN way back when they first came out in the mid 1990's. God can save anyone as long as the let Him. Brian is most welcome to the Kingdom Family now. I think all the fans of that band should follow in his footsteps. I know what it's like to be consumed by so much anger, that sometimes you just wish you would die. Just give some mercy to Brian and pray for him because, he certainly will come under attack from satan now that he's seen the light. It will most likely take all the people who react negatively to the news to hit rock bottom as Brian Welch did and cry out to Almighty God who truly does care for everyone in this planet. Watch The Passion Of The Christ and you will understand. I rejoice with you Brian, welcome home to the King of kings and the Lord of lords.

Thats all cool and all, but now whats going to happen to KoRn? Head was my favorite member. Well, to me it doesn't seem like KoRn has one less member, but that now there's KoRn and there's a part of KoRn doing something else. I'll definitely buy his album but I still choose KoRn.
Posted by: Anonymous on March 02, 2005
BRIAN DUDE!!!.Listen dont get me wrong, I totally understand the importance of having a relationship with God and I respect your opinions but this is so crazy...I never imagined Head making this big of a conversion...he never was this way untill lately...and him leaving KoRn and me being a life-long fan...it leaves me speachless, angry, but happy for him...

I have always been a huge Korn fan, and still am. I am sad to see Brian leave. He is such a talented musician. But I am even happier that he has found a life that has made him so happy. This is the kind of news I would rather hear than another rock star overdose or sucicide because their lives are so unfulfilled. GOOD FOR YOU BRIAN!!!. I only hope that the rest of the guys from Korn find peace in their lives and continue to make great music.

I think what Brian's doing is a wonderful thing. I'm a native of Bakersfield and have listened to Korn since I first heard their material hit radio. I'll agree that it'll be hard to replace such a talent for remaining Korn members but more people need to take into consideration the artists' feelings in such matters. Even so, it's not like Brian has given up music completely. He's still working wonders with his instrument like never before. I'm not the most devout Christian, but I definitely believe, and the fact that Brian can come from such a hostile situation and make the best of it is really inspiring.

Praise God...he's been heartwashed by the blood of Christ. As David prayed in Psalm 51:7-10

Purge me with hyssop, and I shall be clean; Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.Make me hear joy and gladness,
That the bones You have broken may rejoice. Hide Your face from my sins,
And blot out all my iniquities.
Create in me a clean heart, O God,
And renew a steadfast spirit within me.

No one can give up a life held in bondage to sin, unless they've given up on their self sufficiency and cry out to God for their cleansing.

I can't wait to hear the music he'll be making for the Lord...just as David was a skilled musician, so is Brian!

That's awesome. I am so happy for him!!
Posted by: Anonymous on March 05, 2005
I have always been a Korn fan, but I never seen this coming... I think Brian is a lot happier now than he ever was...why would people give him crap for being happy than being in a band thats sings about anger and despair, why not support a man that represents hapiness and hope, he has a wife and a child...life doesnt revolve around a needle and a bunch of dirty women...fun for a while but then its time to get a life and if a few more korn fans realize this than this world will be a better place....from a devout KORN fan but also a new Brian Welch FAN....DUDE U ROCK
Posted by: Anonymous on March 06, 2005
I think this is the most awesome thing I've heard in quite a while. Brian, WELCOME BROTHER!!!!! Welcome to the body of Christ. I couldn't be more proud to have you as a brother in Christ. I'm going to spread this news in my own church because it is just too good & too powerful to keep to myself.

he was in pain from the inside.
but now he is healed from his pains.
but me still not healed from my pains.
i masked my pain by listening to korn.
but now i won't anymore cuz of brian's new
I mean god's CD. i've seen a some documentery or something that they put in CNN about brian, he wrote a note that said
"pray for me while finish god's CD"
he crossed out "my" to put god

I have been trying to find out info on Brian Welch's album "Invitations Have Been Sent to All". I don't see any recent news of the album even on B. Welch's home page. Does anyone know when, if, the album is to be released? Where can I purchase it? I want it for my son. Jamey in Indiana
