Quite a blow was dealt to the modern-day punk scene yesterday (February 22nd). It was announced that pop-punk initiators Blink-182 are going on an "extended hiatus", with no plans to regroup in the future. Thousands of pleads for the trio to reconsider the split flooded Blink-182's official web site, but members Mark Hoppus, Tom DeLonge, and Travis Barker have new priorities now.
All three have become dads over the past few years, and spending time "enjoying the fruits of their labours with their loved ones" was cited as the main reason for the hiatus. No one can blame the three-piece for wanting to spend time with their families, and they've inarguably had a great 10-year run. Six studio albums are signed to Blink-182's name, three of them being incredibly successful worldwide.
The most recent release from Blink-182 is their self-titled 2003 record, which has appropriately been deemed the album the trio "grew-up" on. Featuring hits like "I Miss You", "Feeling This", and "Always", "Blink-182" is also the album that has brought the band their greatest critical success. And so with that, Blink-182 wisely go out at the top of their game.
The official statement released by Blink's record label reads:
"For over a decade, Blink-182 has toured, recorded, and done non-stop promotion all while trying to balance relationships with family and friends.
To that end, the band has decided to go on an indefinite hiatus to spend some time enjoying the fruits of their labours with their loved ones. While there is no set plan for the band to begin working together again, no one knows what tomorrow may bring."
