With the impending release of their newest effort "Themes: International", Calgary rockers The Summerlad are gearing up for a crazy busy 2005. Released on March 5th, the album is the follow-up to the quartet's 2001 debut "Distance Will Be Swept Up". To ring in the creation of their second album, The Summerlad is set to head out on a short tour of the Prairie Provinces, playing five shows outside of their hometown, and just as many in it.
Not content to celebrate the release of their new album in the usual way, The Summerlad has broken down their hometown CD Release Party into two parts. Spreading the excitement over the most amount of time possible, the four-piece will play a "mellow" set at Cathedral Church of Redeemer on March 5th, and then speed over to Broken City for a rip-roaring time, with pals Whitey Houston opening.
In addition to releasing and touring behind "Themes: International", The Summerlad are one of the Calgary bands set to take part in "Much Does Calgary" this Saturday (February 19th). Other bands on the bill include The Cape May, Falconhawk, Sittin' Idol, and Dragon Fli Empire.
At The Summerlad's official site (www.thesummerlad.com), it's possible to listen to four tracks from "Themes: International" - "Set To Light", "Spent The Weak", "(We Need A) Breakdown Gang", and lead off single "VallČe of Cobras" - if one is so inclined.
