Skillet Prepare To Hit The Mainstream

Published: 2005-02-09
Skillet is sitting on the verge of mainstream success, and they've even got a Grammy nomination to prove it. The Memphis, Tennessee four-piece grabbed a "Best Rock Gospel Album" nod for their most recent effort "Collide". Featuring 10 tracks, which were mainly written by frontman Scott Cooper, "Collide" has been gaining Skillet wide attention - they were even profiled in the New York Times this month.

Lately, Christian album sales have been on the rise - thanks to the likes of P.O.D., Switchfoot, and Sixpence None The Richer - and with the help of their Grammy nomination, Skillet are ready to step into the big times. However, as many music fans know, it can be hard when a band you love at an indie level suddenly becomes popular, so Skillet is counting on their loyal fans, known as "Panheads", to support and stick with the band as they make the jump into the world of MTV.

There aren't many occasions when Skillet aren't touring, and so it's no surprise that the band is on the road at the moment. They actually have their schedule filled up until September 2005! Sadly the metal-rockers won't be making any appearances in Canada just yet, but Canadian fans might be able to catch a glimpse of the quartet by watching the 47th Annual Grammy Awards this Sunday (check your local listings).
