Spoon Release Details on New LP

Published: 2005-02-04
Spoon, one of the few bands most people can agree they like at least a little bit, have finally given up the goods on their fifth full-length. The American band has titled the project "Gimme Fiction" and - adding to the already spectacular release-list for 2005 - it's being aimed for release on May 5th here in North America. This record will be Spoon's third full-length for Merge Records; they've been with the label since 2000.

Once again Spoon sticks-man Jim Eno had a hand in producing the record, with Mike McCarthy (Trail of Dead, The Features) throwing his talents into the mix as well. Featuring 11 new tracks, "Gimme Fiction" is the long-awaited follow-up to 2002's widely-loved "Kill The Moonlight". Song topics include long-distance relationships and the ever-popular neckrugs, and according to the band's web site (www.spoontheband.com), it's the longest Spoon record yet (no one seems to be complaining).

Here follows the track-listing of "Gimme Fiction"; let your imaginations run wild:

'The Beast and Dragon, Adored'
'The Two Sides of Monsieur Valentine'
'I Turn My Camera On'
'My Mathematical Mind'
'The Delicate Place'
'Sister Jack'
'I Summon You'
'The Infinite Pet'
'Was It You?'
'They Never Got You'
'Merchants of Soul'

It can most certainly be expected that Britt Daniel and Co. will embark on a world tour in support of "Gimme Fiction", although no plans have yet been announced. So far the only North American date the Texans have lined-up for 2005 is an appearance at this year's Coachella Festival in California.

As a side note: although details on "Gimme Fiction" have been few and far between, according to Merge Record's web site (www.mergerecords.com), the label might just stream the entire album before it's officially released.
