Ian Brown To Play Toronto In February

Published: 2005-02-02
This is definitely an event that doesn't happen very often (almost never really), but former Stone Roses vocalist Ian Brown will be playing a gig in Toronto on February 28th. The singer has just two dates scheduled for North America - the other is in New York on the 26th. Following his gigs on this continent, Brown will play a short tour of Britain in late March.

Brown is out supporting his latest solo album 'Solarized', released last December in North America. The 10-track record hit UK shelves in September, and has been gaining Brown pretty spectacular reviews. Of course, what most people want to know is whether or not Brown will be playing any Stone Roses songs at his Toronto gig as well.

Recently Brown has been playing Roses tracks in his solo sets - before Brown didn't play them out of respect for the other Stone Roses' members. However, that changed when ex-Stone Roses member John Squire began playing Stone Roses songs solo. This in turn prompted Brown to begin playing them again out of sheer pride.

Although they released just two albums - their near-perfect 1989 self-titled debut and 1994's 'Second Coming' - The Stone Roses were hugely influential in British music. The five-year wait between albums and general inactivity of the band led to a bitter disbanding in 1996. This is when the notorious feud between Brown and Squire erupted; it was Squire who officially put the final nail in The Stone Roses' coffin.

In other Ian Brown news, the singer is nominated for Best Solo Artist at this year's NME Awards. Vote at: www.nmeawards.com.
