The Coral Put Finishing Touches on New LP

Published: 2005-02-01
They've released three full-length albums since 2002, and English six-piece The Coral are looking to add a fourth within the next year. The indie rockers have been in the studio working on what will become their third "proper" album (2004's 'Nightfreak and the Sons of Becker' was just for fun) since last year, and it should be ready for release this spring.

It's reportedly been titled 'The Invisible Invasion', and will be more sonically similar to 'Nightfreak' than The Coral's previous efforts. Sitting behind the boards on the project are Geoff Barrow and Adrian Utley, both members of the band Portishead. This will be the first time The Coral have worked with the pair; the sextet's last proper album, 'Magic & Medicine', was self-produced.

Along with the likes of The Zutons and The Bandits, The Coral are one of the bands that have helped to give Liverpool back its reputation for creating some great music. Understandably, the thought of living up to fellow townsmen The Beatles probably played its part in crippling most musical activity in the city, until the NME recently picked up on it again.

Although technically The Coral are from nearby Hoylake, the six-piece are included in the resurgence of local Liverpool talent, with 'Magic & Medicine' reaching the top of the UK charts in 2003. Neighbourhood friends, The Coral formed in 1996, but it wasn't until six years later that their self-titled debut album was released in 2002.
