New Pornographers Get Back in the Studio

Published: 2005-01-31
Last week, care of the Matador Records web site, Newman announced that The New Pornographers have been busy like bees in the recording studio, and their next album could be on shelves by September.

In addition to this ridiculously good news, he also states that alt. country queen Neko Case will once again lend her vocals to the supergroup, as will Nora O'Connor. Newman also admitted that the band has become enamoured with the ebow and baritone guitar's potential to sound like a cello, and the lovely benefits of that fact.

As Newman so eloquently puts it: "We've become fascinated by the ability of the ebow and baritone guitar to sound kind of like a cello. This fixes the problem of wanting cello, but not wanting a cello player in your band. They take up way too much room."

Seeing as it's generally agreed upon that the song "The Town Halo" (from Newman's 2004 solo album "The Slow Wonder") has the world's best cello riff ever, this news certainly gives reason for ears to eagerly await the release of the third New Pornographers' album. The last album The Pornographer's released as a group was 2003's critically acclaimed "Electric Version", which can be heard at the band's official site: www.thenewpornographers.com.
