Ray LaMontagne Stays On The Road

Published: 2005-01-25
As of late, self-proclaimed oddball Ray LaMontagne has found himself in a spot many musicians want to be in. He's just released his first album and already has been compared to Bob Dylan, Van Morrison, and is being hailed as one of the best singer/songwriters active in America today. The record which has thrust him into the spotlight is called 'Trouble', and was produced by Ethan Johns (Kings of Leon, Ryan Adams). Featuring 10-tracks, 'Trouble' was released last September through RCA Records.

Born in New Hampshire and on the move ever since, LaMontagne's life reads like that of a modern day Sal Paradise, and his 'On The Road' lifestyle is set to continue as the emotionally-charged singer tours America and the UK this year. Unfortunately there are no Canadian stops scheduled at the moment, but those that are so inclined can dip down to Detroit or New York to check out his shows.

For those who aren't looking to travel quite so far, a trip to LaMontagne's official site (www.raylamontagne.com) will allow you to listen to songs 'Jolene', 'Shelter', and title-track 'Trouble'. While at his web site, it wouldn't hurt to read the guy's biography: it's as interesting as Kerouac's tales (a Steven Stills song completely and utterly changed his life, don't cha know).

To check out Soul Shine's glowing review of LaMontagne's debut (5/5 t'was given), go to the 'Reviews' section of the web site.

Ray LaMontagne shows close to the Canadian border:

February 12 Detroit, MI - Magic Stick
April 2 New York, NY - Webster Hall
