The 2006 Junos Find a Home in Halifax

Published: 2005-01-21
If there's one thing that can be said about the Junos, it's that they plan their travels well in advance. The 2005 ceremonies haven't even taken place yet, but the Canadian Music Awards already have their next spot all picked out. The year 2006 will see the Juno Awards ceremonies take place in Halifax, Nova Scotia on April 2nd.

Halifax mayor Peter Kelly was glad to hear of the Junos' travelling plans: "It's great news," he said. "It will give us a chance to showcase our people and our talents and we look very much forward to showing Canada and the rest of the world a show they won't soon forget."

This year's ceremonies will be taking place in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Comedian Brent Butt (best known as the creator, star, and producer of the CTV comedy Corner Gas) was recently named host of the 2005 Junos, and will surely raise a few chuckles in homes across the country. To catch the 34th Annual Juno Awards, tune into CTV on Sunday, April 3rd; tickets for the event, held at the MTS Centre, go on sale February 12th through Ticketmaster.

Held in Edmonton, Alberta, the 2004 Junos were hosted by Alanis Morissette (who made a memorable appearance in a Nipplegate-mocking body sock). Winners of the past year include Billy Talent for Best New Group, Sarah McLachlan for Top Songwriter, with Sam Roberts as the star of the evening, walking away with three statues.
