Despistado Split Before First LP Hits Stores

Published: 2005-01-17
Much to the delight of music fans, 2004 was the year of the reunion, with the likes of The Pixies and The New York Dolls making a return to the stage. It looks as if 2005 will make a swing in the opposite direction as the first two weeks have already brought news of three break-ups. Welsh trio Mclusky and (possibly) Canadian jokesters The Unicorns have called it quits, and last week Jade Tree Records confirmed the split of Regina rockers Despistado.

Though they've been together for three years, the quartet leaves behind just two recordings. Last summer Jade Tree re-issued the band's debut EP 'The Emergency Response', and the label is planning to digitally release Despistado's first full-length on April 5th. The album is called 'The People Of And Their Verses', and houses 12 new tracks, one of which ('Burning House') can be heard at

A statement about Despistado's split posted at Jade Tree Record's web site reads: "We are sad to announce that our favorite prairie darlings have decided to call it quits, the Canadian lads that make up Despistado have opted to move onÖin many ways ['The People Of And Their Verses'] is the best farewell they could have offered - we wish the various members much luck and success in all their endeavours."

The track-listing of 'The People Of And Their Verses', Despistado's first and last LP is:

'Burning House'
'The Memory of This History'
'If Relationships A Construct, Then I'm A Construction Worker'
'The People Of And Their Verses'
'Magnetic Streetlights'
'This Neighbourhood'
'Test Tube'
'Who Do You Choose'
'My Definition Of A Tragedy'
