Dr. Dreís Attacker Blameless?

Published: 2005-01-13
The events that surrounded last November's Vibe Awards may have appeared to be nothing new for rap music; several people in the industry have been in jail or have fought behind the camera before this incident occurred. However, when fans watched the Vibe Music Awards as Dr. Dre was attacked just before he was to accept a lifetime achievement award, the horror was apparent. E! Online reports that the accused, Jimmy James Johnson, appeared before a Los Angeles court on Monday and pleaded not guilty to the assault charge brought on by the incident.

One has to wonder why and how a 26 year old "parolee" got as close as he did to Dre during the ceremony and further, that he denied he did what was already captured on film and televised in front of millions of rap/hip-hop music fans. During the attack, G-Unit's Young Buck stabbed Johnson with a knife (how did he get a knife past the Vibe Music Awards security!?) and left the accused with a punctured lung. Some speculate that the falling out between Death Row Records co-founder, Marion "Suge" Knight and Dr. Dre had a point in the incident; Knight denies any involvement in the case. The tragedy of this event can only leave disappointment in fan's hearts as their music icons "blamelessly" continue on.
