On January 6th The Wailin' Jennys' first tour of 2005 kicked off in Prince Rupert, British Columbia. The three-piece has a total of five remaining performances scheduled for January (including one tonight), and after spending February seeing the sights of Jolly Old England, will pick up again in North America, including a performance at SXSW. The girls are also looking even farther into their future, and have already signed on to participate in two Alberta folk festivals this July.
The Winnipeg roots band is taking their three-part-harmonies on the road to support their WCMA winning debut album '40 Days'. Those who check out The Jennys during one of their 2005 shows will notice a change in the line-up of the band. It seems member Cara Luft missed the life of a solo artist, and was replaced by alto Annabelle Chvostek in December 2004.
One of the many bands wishing to do their part to help the victims of December's tsunami, The Wailin' Jennys left this message on their web site: "We wanted to let everyone know that we are donating $1 per CD sold to the Southeast Asian relief fund for this tour and for any mail orders from the web site. We were not able to take part in any fundraisers, unfortunately, so we felt it was important to make some contribution."
