Music Moguls Make Largest-Ever Personal Donation to Canadian Red Cross

Published: 2005-01-11
Aid for places like Sri Lanka and Indonesia have been pouring in since the horrendous tsunami on December 26th, but more money is still needed to begin putting the pieces back together following the disaster. Citizens all across Canada are donating generously to the effort, and Kroum and Eva Pindoff, founders of Music World Limited and Pindoff Record Sales Limited, are doing the same.

However, the Pindoffs stand out from the crowd in the fact that as of the morning of January 10th they are contributors of the largest personal donation the Canadian Red Cross has ever received for a disaster appeal. The size of their gift on Monday morning was $5,000,000, following a donation of $500,000 they made last Friday.

Speaking of their decision to increase their donation, Mr. Pindoff said: "After seeing more stark images of this tremendous tragedy and misery, my wife and I were up most of the night, grief-stricken. We wanted to help alleviate the suffering, and decided we had to make a more substantial gift."

The couple rushed to make the extremely generous donation before January 11th so that it would be part of the federal government's promise to match the donations of the Canadian people. Mrs. Pindoff congratulates the government for taking such action to help the victims of the tsunami. "Prime Minister Paul Martin and the federal government have shown great leadership in creating the donation matching program," she said. "It was very effective in inspiring the quick timing of our donation today."

Kroum and Eva Pindoff's Pindoff Record Sales Limited is the company which operates the national music store chain Music World. There are nearly 100 of the music outlets across Canada, selling records to the country's music lovers.
