Franz Ferdinand Return to the Studio

Published: 2005-01-05
Arguably the biggest band of 2004 with the massive success of their self-titled debut, Scottish art-rockers Franz Ferdinand are ready to see if they can do it again. The four-piece is set to head back into the recording studio later this January and plan to stay there for a few months. Due to the immense popularity of the band, the location of their Scottish recording studio is being kept under tight wraps.

According to reports, some of the song titles that are being considered for Franz Ferdinand's sophomore effort include: 'Well That Was Easy', 'Your Diary', and 'I'm Your Villain. The notorious pressures that a sophomore album brings to a band, especially after a debut as successful as Franz Ferdinand's, don't seem to phase the quartet. Speaking with Scottish paper the Daily Record, lead singer Alex Kapranos had this to say about their album:

"We've written a few new songs and half the album is arranged and ready to go. We probably have all the ideas we need. We are hoping to have 20 songs to whittle down to the 11 we need for the next album. We'll take a couple of weeks break and start working on the new album at the end of January in Scotland - at a secret location in the countryside. There will always be people who like the band and those who aren't into us, and that isn't going to change, so we aren't worried about a backlash. Instead, we are going to work as hard as we can."

2004 was an incredibly successful year for Franz Ferdinand, with their eponymous debut appearing high on album charts all over the world, including the vicious American market. The 11-track album could quite realistically be on every single Top Ten Albums list made for the year 2004. Good thing the boys of Franz seem to be immune to expectations.
