Ben Harper and the Blind Boys Prep DVD

Published: 2004-12-24
Earlier this year folk-rock artist Ben Harper and legendary gospel group The Blind Boys of Alabama teamed up for a joint album. The results of their recording sessions was the 11-track album 'There Will Be a Light', which was released on September 21st, 2004 through Virgin records.

As it turns out there are more fruits to the artists' collaborative effort: a live DVD. Footage for the live DVD of Harper and the Blind Boys was taken from a New York performance that took place back in October at the Apollo Theatre. The as-yet-untitled DVD is being aimed for a spring release through Virgin records.

In other Ben Harper news, 'There Will Be a Light' gained the singer his very first solo Grammy nomination. The track 'The 11th Commandment' earned Harper a nod for 'Best Pop Instrumental Performance'. That wasn't the only nomination the album received; Harper and the Blind Boys are up for 'Best Gospel Performance' for the title-track, while the album 'There Will Be a Light' is nominated for 'Best Traditional Soul Gospel Album'.

Although 'There Will Be a Light' is the first full-length album from Ben Harper and the Blind Boys of Alabama, they have worked together many times before. Ben Harper appeared on the Blind Boys of Alabama album, "Higher Ground". The Blind Boys have also covered Ben Harper songs on "Higher Ground" and "Spirit Of The Century", and they have performed with Ben Harper live on several occasions.
