Yo La Tengo Take a Look Back

Published: 2004-12-22
Indie favourites Yo La Tengo are ready to compact their two decade long career onto a two disc set in order to please their many fans around the world. The New Jersey trio will release a 26-track 'best of' entitled 'Prisoners of Love: A Smattering of Scintillating Senescent Songs, 1984-2003' on March 22nd.

The nearly 2-hour-long retrospective compilation will span the entirety of Yo La Tengo's career from their very first 7" on their own label (Egon) to their latest release for Matador Records 'Summer Sun' (released in April 2003). Liner notes for 'Prisoners of Love' will be written by Byron Coley, who just might take the title for liner note king. Coley is behind the liner notes in quite a few Dinosaur Jr. albums, as well as penning Guided By Voices and Thurston Moore notes.

Although the majority of the pressings of 'Prisoners of Love' will include two discs, there's a limited edition which will feature a whole other disc. While the first two feature songs from Yo La Tengo's proper album releases, the third limited disc houses outtakes and rarities, including previously unreleased material (adding another 75 minutes onto the running length).

There are also plans to release a Yo La Tengo DVD compilation, which is being aimed for a 2005 release.
