It was announced last week that legendary funk artist James Brown has been diagnosed with prostate cancer. Brown, who is now 71-years-old is scheduled to undergo surgery on December 15th. The singer released a statement, showing he is confident that he will beat the disease: ""I have overcome a lot of things in my life. I will overcome this as well."

The last thing that Brown was doing before the news of his disease was announced was touring Canada. Over the course of two weeks from late November to early December, Brown crossed the nation from East to West hitting 10 different cities along the way. The singer is slated to perform in Asia and Australia, and as of yet has not cancelled any of the dates.

The Godfather of Soul first appeared on the scene way back in the year of 1956 with the single 'Please, Please, Please', released under the name James Brown and his Famous Flames. His debut album was released in three years later called what else but 'Please, Please, Please'. As many people know, Brown has become a gigantic force in music and a huge influence on many of today's artists.

Fans will get a chance to read about Brown and his travel through the world of music when his autobiography 'I Feel Good: A Memoir of a Life of Soul' is released in January (which Brown is planning to promote in 2005)
