Going 'Manic' in the New Year

Since their beginning in Jamestown, New York in 1981 10,000 Maniacs have released nine albums which sold 10 million copies. In celebration of the band's career Rhino/Elektra Records is releasing a two disc set on January 27. "Campfire Songs: The Popular, Obscure and Unknown Recording of 10,000 Maniacs" is a compilation of covers, hits, alternates, and unreleased songs. The first CD contains 17 of the bands best loved songs. The second disc along with previously unreleased tunes contains two duets with former lead singer Natalie Merchant; one with Talking Heads frontman David Byrne and one with R.E.M.'s Michael Stipe. The second disc also contains cover tunes and alternate versions to some songs. The project was supervised by Merchant. The package also contains liner notes by Merchant and members of 10,000 Maniacs.
