Brendan Benson Readies New Album

Published: 2004-12-10
American rocker Brendan Benson is preparing his next full-length album for release early next year. The record, which will be his third studio album, is being called 'Alternative To Love', and is being aimed for a March release date. Following the release of 'Alternative To Love', it is expected that Benson will tour North America. First thing on his list for 2005 though, is a short headlining tour of the UK, which will see him play 5 dates around the country.

Recording the album in his home studio, Benson worked alongside White Stripes frontman Jack White on 'Alternative To Love'. This isn't the first time White has taken a role behind the boards, as he produced Loretta Lynn's critically-acclaimed 'Van Lear Rose'. 'Alternative To Love' is the follow-up to Benson's 2002 album 'Lapalco'.

Speaking to earlier this year, Benson described the sound of his upcoming release: "It's weird, man. There's stuff on there that sounds like Cat Stevens, and there's some stuff on there that sounds like Led Zeppelin. I can say some of the stuff sounds like pure Jack White. You can hear it and say, 'Oh, that's a Jack White song.' I don't know if people are going to think it's crap or brilliant. I have no idea."

Not only has Benson been working on his solo album with White (who lives just a few blocks away from Benson in Detroit), but the two singers have also been recording songs as a duo. Although there are not definite plans as of yet, the pair hope to release their material sometime in the near future.
