The Weakerthans Hit the 'Ocean Highway'

Published: 2004-12-08
As they venture across the United States on their 'Ocean Highway' tour, Winnipeg punks The Weakerthans will appease their Canadian fans by sneaking northwards across the border. The quartet's lone Canadian date on the tour will be in Vancouver, British Columbia on December 11th. There are a total of 10 dates on the 'Ocean Highway' tour; the first happened on the first of the month in Seattle.

Although there is just one Canadian gig on their 'Ocean Highway' tour, The Weakerthans aren't the type to spend New Year's eve NOT playing a show, so that's just what they'll be doing. The four-piece is set to ring in 2005 in Hamilton, Ontario alongside another beloved Canadian rock act that goes by the name of The Tragically Hip.

The Weakerthans continue to tour in support of their latest full-length 'Reconstruction Site'. Re-released through Epitaph records in September 2003, the 14-track album is the band's third LP. 'Reconstruction Site' has gained the alt-rock quartet some lovely applause, including winning 'Outstanding Album (Independet)' and 'Outstanding Songwriter' at the 2004 WCMAs.

Taking a big bow for the 'Outstanding Songwriter' award was Weakerthans leader John K. Samson, who is also widely known for his work with politically-charged punk band Propagandhi.

The Weakerthans upcoming gigs:

December 11 Vancouver, BC - Red Room
December 31 Hamilton, ON - Copps Coliseum
