More Super Furry Animals Next Year

Published: 2004-12-07
New material from the most cuddly-named-rockers-ever is well on its way to finding a home in the outstretched arms of Super Furry Animal fans the world 'round. What will become the band's seventh album is currently being mixed, and can be expected to be completely finished and ready for purchase sometime next spring. The as-yet-untitled effort, which is rumoured to have an orchestral sound, is the follow-up to the 2003 critically acclaimed gem 'Phantom Power'.

In other Super Furries news, the frontman with the name North Americans can't pronounce properly, Gruff Rhys, is ready to release his first solo outing. The singer has given the album a Welsh name as equally unpronounceable by the less-cultured masses: 'Yr Atal Genhedlaeth'. For those wondering, the title roughly translated into English happens to be 'The Stuttering Generation'. Set to hit stores on January 24th in Britain, the 29-minute record contains 11 new tracks.

The track-listing of Gruff Rhys' 'Yr Atal Genhedlaeth' is:

'Yr Atal Genhedlaeth (The Stuttering Generation)'
'Gwn Mi Wn (Yes I Know)'
'Epynt (A Mountain In Wales)'
'Rhagluniaeth Ysgafn (May My Destiny By Light)'
'Pwidin Wy 1 (Egg Pudding 1)'
'Pwidin Wy 2 (Egg Pudding 2)'
'Y Gwybodusion (Experts)'
'Caerfoosiaeth (Sewage City)'
'Ambell Waith (Remembering)'
'Ni Yw Y Byd (We Are The World)'
'Chwarea'n Troi'n Chwerw (When Play Turns Sour)'

This isn't the first time Super Furry Animals have proudly displayed their Welsh heritage for all to see. The alt-rock band released an all-Welsh album called 'Mwng' back in 2000, and their debut EP was also sung entirely in Welsh. For those who haven't mastered the Welsh language, the name of that 1995 Super Furry Animals record is the master tongue-tier of them all, hands down -'Lianfairpwllgywgyllgoger Chwymdrobwlltysiliogoygoyocynygofod (In Space)'.
