Billy Idol To Release First New Music In 10 Years

Published: 2004-12-07
After being effectively out of the music business for nearly a decade, Billy Idol is set to release his first CD featuring new material in 10 years entitled Devil's Playground. The 13 track CD, which will be put out on Sanctuary Records, will be released March 22nd. The first single, Scream, will hit the radio waves January 3rd. Idol and his band, guitarist Steve Stevens, drummer Brian Tichy, bassist Stephen McGrath and keyboardist Derek Sherinian had played a few select gigs over the past few years, but have largely been off the musical radar of late. Idol was approached last year by Sanctuary Group Inc. USA CEO Merck Mercuriadis after a show at the Hammerstein Ballroom in New York, and asked to record a new album. They entered the studio this past April with producer Keith Forsey to record Devil's Playground. Idol has already enjoyed a distinguished career, with six platinum and/or multi-platinum albums, one #1 single, seven top 20 hits and two Grammy nominations, but now he says that "2005 is the time for an original punk rocker to show his stuff." A world tour will begin in March, 2005.
