The Frontier Index Play 'Festive Special'

Published: 2004-12-06
Just a week before Christmas Day is upon us, indie label Rainbow Quartz Records will add to the cheer of the season with their 1st Annual Rainbow Quartz Festive Special. The event will feature three of the label's up-and-coming Canadian acts: The High Dials, The Frontier Index, and Showroom. To join the bands in celebrating the holiday season, head down to Club 360 in Toronto on December 17th. Things will kick off at 9pm for the price of just $7.

Not only will Rainbow Quartz be able to show their festive spirit at the Special, but they'll also have the opportunity to show off one of their newest additions. The Toronto-based quartet The Frontier Index recently signed with the label, adding to the growing number of Canadian bands on Rainbow Quartz. At the moment the members of The Frontier Index are locked away in the studio, working on their first release for the label.

The band is committing their "cosmic-country-soul" music to record with producer Andy Magoffin. An active member on the music front, Magoffin has worked with other Canadian mainstays like The Hidden Cameras, Cuff The Duke, and The Constantines. The as-yet-untitled effort from The Frontier Index can be expected to hit stores in June 2005.

For those wondering just what "cosmic-country-soul" sounds like, it might help to know where The Frontier Index is coming from. Vocalist/guitarist Corey Herden explains the band's sound: "There's something very old about the music we make together, maybe it's our sincerity as musicians. Maybe it's the music we've obsessed over. The Rolling Stones, The Beatles, The Band, Gram Parsons, Hank Williams Sr, Bob Dylan."

The Frontier Index has already made a name for themselves at home, opening for the likes of Adam Green and Lowest of the Low. For those who haven't had a chance to check the quartet out live, three songs are available for download at
