More Details Emerge On R.E.M. Reissues

Published: 2004-12-06
As previously announced on Soul Shine, alt-rock pioneers R.E.M. will re-release their entire Warner Bros. back catalogue in the New Year. Every album since the 1989 landmark 'Green' will be given the once over (including the band's 2003 'Best Of') - that means a total of nine R.E.M. albums will be re-vamped for release on February 15th.

Each of the records will be repackaged in a two disc format, which will include the original audio album plus a DVD filled with bonus material. The DVD portion of the release will feature a 5.1 surround sound remix of the albums, and fans can also expect expanded album sleeves with new liner notes.

The bonus DVD included with the band's Warner Bros. debut 'Green' (1989) will include unreleased documentary footage and two live performances taken from the 'Tour Film' DVD. Arguably one of R.E.M.'s finest albums came with 'Out of Time' (1991), which will feature a documentary called 'Time Piece' that includes band member interviews, and song commentaries.

'Automatic For The People' (1992) remains one of R.E.M.'s most memorable moments, featuring the now classic track 'Everybody Hurts'. The bonus material paired with R.E.M.'s most commercially successful album includes studio and promotional footage. The extras included with 'Monster' (1994), 'New Adventures In Hi Fi' (1996), and 'Up' (1998) feature much of the same type of documentary, and live performance footage as the aforementioned albums.

Jumping into the all-important video department, R.E.M.'s 2001 album 'Reveal' will include the promo for 'I'll Take The Rain', and the compilation 'In Time: The Best Of R.E.M.' reissue will feature the 'Bad Day' video. Even the band's latest effort 'Around The Sun' couldn't escape the makeover. Just released this past October, the bonus material for 'Around The Sun' will include lyrics, a photo gallery, and more unreleased video footage.
