The Fiery Furnaces Are Recording Machines

It seems that the Friedberger siblings are an incredibly productive pair of musicians. They, along with the other half of The Fiery Furnaces, have a bundle of material ready for release in 2005. In addition to a 10-song EP that will compile all of their single releases in the UK, fans can expect two new long players from the band in the New Year.

The 10-song singles EP will be the first to hit stores, becoming available for purchase on January 11th. Released through their British label Rough Trade, the EP, which is simply titled 'EP', contains mainly B-sides, with a few A-sides thrown in. The track-listing of 'EP' is as follows:

'Single Again'
'Here Comes The Summer'
'Evergreen'
'Sing For Me'
'Tropical Ice-Land'
'Duffer St. Goerge'
'Smelling Cigarettes'
'Cousin Chris'
'Sweet Spots'
'Sullivans Social Club'

Later in the year (projected release time is mid-July), the newest studio albums from The Furnaces will be released. Although the two records, which are being called 'Garfield El' and 'Speaking Chinese', are two separate entities, they will be released as a double-album. The reason behind this decision would have to do with the content to be included on 'Garfield El'. The Friedbergers worked alongside their grandmother for the upcoming record, and aren't sure their label will be too impressed with their unique family collaboration idea. Therefore, they plan to supplement the songs of 'Garfield El' with the grandmother-less tracks that will be found on 'Speaking Chinese'.
