Sting Plans 2005 Tour

Published: 2004-12-02
Quite a few tours by big-name-artists have recently been announced and most of them aren't set to kick off until Spring 2005. Sting can be added to the list of superstars who are gaining a huge level of fan anticipation with their plans for the New Year. The former Police man is currently touring Europe, but will return to North America to play a series of dates dubbed the 'Broken Music' tour in 2005.

Sting's 'Broken Music' tour in continuing support of his 2003 album 'Sacred Love' will kick off in San Jose on April 1st, with the last scheduled date coming in on April 30th in Atlantic City. So far there have only been two Canadian dates confirmed, but according to Sting's official website ( there are still more tour dates to be announced.

Unlike his 'Sacred Love' tour with Annie Lennox that swept across the nation earlier this year, the 'Broken Music' tour will see Sting play in smaller venues (including college campuses) which he hasn't visited recently. In addition to scaling back the number of seats available to his fans, Sting's band will also be smaller for his 2005 tour.

The stripped down line up will see just four players on stage during the tour - Sting on bass, Dominic Miller and Shane Fontayne (Bruce Springsteen, Lone Justice) on guitar, and Josh Freese (A Perfect Circle) behind the kit. The opening spot for the majority of the stops goes to California quintet Phantom Planet. Most people probably know the rockers best as the providers of The OC's theme song 'California', and/or as actor Jason Schwartzman's former band.

Tickets for the show in Kelowna, British Columbia will go on sale this Saturday (December 4th).

Sting's confirmed Canadian performances:

April 5 Kelowna, BC - Prospera Place
April 23 London, ON - Labatt Centre
