High Dials Album Nears Completion

Published: 2004-12-01
Some people may have noticed that the usually active High Dials have been missing from the live circuit for the past few months, and there's a good explanation why. The Montreal-based four-piece has been locked in a recording studio for the better part of the fall. They've been busy working away at their new full-length, and The Dials are nearing the end of the process.

When they went into the studio, The High Dials had 21 songs to choose from, and they've now been cut down to the final 16 that will appear on the album. The record, which is the follow-up to 2003's 'A New Devotion', has been given the title of 'War of the Worlds' by the guys. So far there hasn't been a potential release date announced, but check back to Soul Shine for updates.

The songs included on 'War of the Worlds' have been described by the quartet using many an adjective, with just a few being "Leonard Cohen-style Turkish ballads", "lush mellotron laments", and "post-punk dance rave-ups with country hooks" (whatever that means). While fans will have to wait a bit longer to see if any of these descriptions pan out, they can rest assured that The Dials haven't gone completely off their rocker.

The band went on to say: "It is a very exciting time, because this is definitely the best music we've ever made."

Not only will The High Dials put the finishing touches on 'War of the Worlds' this winter, but they'll free themselves from the studio to play a few live gigs around Ontario. The quartet will stretch their performances muscles on these dates:

December 2 Kingston, ON - Elixir
December 17 Toronto, ON - The 360
