David Bowie Praises The Arcade Fire

Published: 2004-11-29
Each year there are always a few bands that get run through the hype-machine at warp speed. This year, one of those bands was Montreal-based sextet The Arcade Fire. Touted to have produced an outrageously amazing album with 'Funeral' by practically every music rag out there, it really doesn't compare to the accolades the band recently received.

Through a posting on his website's message boards under username Sailor, the one and only David Bowie gushed: "THERE'S NOTHING ELSE TO SAY. 'THE ARCADE FIRE' HAVE THE ALBUM OF THE YEAR. You must, simply must, buy it now, today, pronto. Quite the most beautiful, moving and passionate piece of brilliant song-writing and quirky performance I've heard in YONKS !!! It's called 'FUNERAL' (Merge Records) and nothing else (and yes, I've heard the new U2) comes close."

The legendary singer went on to say that Texas trio The Secret Machines comes in at a close second with their sophomore effort 'Now Here Is Nowhere'. Surely the praise from Bowie has put a new bounce in both of the bands' steps. At the moment The Arcade Fire are touring North America to promote their heavily recommended full-length debut 'Funeral'. The majority of the band's upcoming gigs are in the US, but they have two December performances lined-up for their West Coast Canuck fans.

The Arcade Fire's upcoming gigs:

December 12 Vancouver, BC - Richard's On Richards
December 13 Victoria, BC - Lucky Bar

Cant beat it, getting praise like that from the most important and influential artist of our time, David Bowie. He's like that. He's very much in touch with the new stuff out there and ya gotta love him for that.( the man is nearly 60!) In the early late 80's he continuously sang the praises of "The Pixies" and he was bang on. The Pixies became more legendary as the 90's wore on. When Bowie gushes about a band...he gushes non-stop...:)))) I've heard the Arcade Fire myself and they are marvelous and infectuous. I hope they can keep it up in the years to come!

Yes, Bowie deserves credit for singing the praises of artists he loves. It helps that he has a very hip son, too. ;p
