R.E.M. Do It Again

Published: 2004-11-26
Lately R.E.M. hasn't been gaining the glowing reviews they once did, but there was once a time when they were on everyone's end of year lists. The band is set to relive the glory of their earlier albums as they prepare to reissue their entire back catalogue with Warner Bros. records. Every one of the group's albums will be expanded, right from their 1988 album 'Green' to 'Around The Sun' which was just released this fall.

The reissued versions of the eight albums will each feature two discs. Included in the package will be the original record, plus a DVD containing the album remixed in 5.1 surround sound, as well as unreleased documentary and video footage. For example, according to Rolling Stone the revamped version of 'Out Of Time' includes a documentary called 'Time Piece', interviews with band members, and commentary on the album's songs.

Although R.E.M. released a considerable amount of records before joining the Warner Bros. gang, it was after their contract with the label that they really rose from the underground. 'Green' saw the Georgia quartet embark on a world tour, and the following albums - 1991's 'Out Of Time' and 1992's 'Automatic For The People' - would prove to be the band's most popular albums.

At the moment lead vocalist Michael Stipe and Co. are finishing up the American leg of their world tour, which they'll pick up again in 2005 overseas.
