Ozzy Fights Jewel Thief

Published: 2004-11-25
Ozzy Osbourne's U.K. country mansion was broken into early Monday morning, but the thief did not leave unscathed. Police say the robber gained access to the home via a first story window with the aid of a ladder. He escaped with jewelry which, according to British reports, is valued at $3.7 million, but not before the 50 year old former Black Sabbath frontman and Ozzfest founder attempted to tackle him. The family and their insurers are offering approximately 186 thousand dollars for information leading to the burglar's arrest.

Nine items were stolen in total, including the couple's wedding rings (from their renewed vows) which were stolen from Sharon's bedside table as she slept. Another piece taken was a rare 24-carat sapphire that was bought as an investment for the two Osbourne daughters and is one of the only pure sapphires in existence.

Ozzy was fairly tight-lipped during the ensuing press conference, but he admitted his opinion of the U.K. has been lowered ó especially after years of relatively crime-free living in a sketchy part of the the States: "We lived in Los Angeles where people get shot every day and have been trailed by lots of different stalkers ó and yet we come back to England and I'm very disappointed. It could have got really ugly. I just thank God no one got hurt".

Ozzy said that he acted "purely on impulse," and when asked if he would do it again he answered "Is the Pope a Catholic?"
