Canadian institution The Tragically Hip are to be inducted into the Canadian Music Hall of Fame. If you're looking for the Hall as you traverse the country, don't be discouraged if you don't find it. There is no actual building. The induction is more of a lifetime achievement honour bestowed by the Canadian Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences, the same people who bring us the Junos each year.
The Hall debuted in 1978, and since then almost 40 artists have been inducted. Inductees include Joni Mitchell, Neil Young, Rush, The Guess Who, The Band, and Daniel Lanois. The Hip will be awarded the 2005 induction in a ceremony this coming spring, the night before the Juno Awards themselves which will be handed out in Winnipeg on April 3rd. The Kingston five-piece are no strangers to the Juno nod, with 31 previous nominations and 11 wins.
Currently, the Hip are in the midst of their umpteenth Canadian tour. They play Toronto's ACC tomorrow night with The Joel Plaskett Emergency, and will ring in the New Year in Hamilton.
