Moby's 'Hotel' Gets Release Date

Published: 2004-11-23
It's been two years since his last full-length album, but New York electronica artist Moby is ready to present a new offering to his fans. The record has been titled 'Hotel' by Moby, and will be put on shelves on March 22nd in North America (the rest of the world will see 'Hotel' become available on March 14th). The first single from what is Moby's fifth studio-album can be expected to appear at the end of February.

Taking a new direction in his career, 'Hotel' is the first album on which there will be no vocal samples. In fact, 10 out of the 14 tracks included on the self-produced record feature Moby's voice, as well as two duets and two instrumentals. In addition to providing the majority of the vocals, Moby also displays his musicianship by playing all the instruments on the album, with the exception of drums.

The studio-album which precedes 'Hotel' is 2002's '18'. The 18-track album featured the hit single 'We Are All Made of Stars', but failed to make as big of a splash as his 1999 album 'Play'. Featuring some of the biggest mainstream hits of Moby's career, 'Play' is the album that really introduced the electronica artist to the general public.

Not only did songs like 'Porcelain', 'South Side', and 'Natural Blues' make an impact on the singles charts, but Moby also licensed all 18-tracks of 'Play' for commercial use. The artist's music made appearances in car commercials and various movie soundtracks, gaining Moby a slew of new fans along the way.
