Ed Harcourt Is No 'Stranger' to North America

Published: 2004-11-08
This Tuesday (November 9th) the fourth offering from English singer/songwriter Ed Harcourt will see its North American release. Put on shelves in the UK on September 13th, 'Strangers' has already met with a ton of critical acclaim on the other side of the Atlantic. The 12-track record is being released via Heavenly/EMI, (Heavenly Recordings is also home to the likes of the Beth Orton, and Doves).

His fourth album in four years, Harcourt seems to have a never-ending supply of songs shoved up his sleeve. Just 27-years-old, the singer is rumoured to have a huge catalogue of songs, the number of which shoot up into the mid-hundreds. Although Harcourt's newest effort is just seeing release here in North America, he's already raring to go on his next album. According to the artist's site (www.edharcourt.com), Harcourt already has his next two albums planned out.

Hoping to have them released simultaneously, Harcourt has given the records working titles of 'The Importance of Light', and 'Poisoned Mind'. The first is to be a happy, light album, and the latter Harcourt intends to "sound like the end of the world" (so, not so light).

Releasing his debut album 'Here Be Monsters' in 2001, Harcourt caught the attention of the music world through his lush melodies and superb lyrics, and gained himself a nomination for the coveted Mercury Music Prize. Since then he released both 'Maplewood' and 'From Every Sphere' in the year 2003.

Ed Harcourt is currently touring the UK, and Europe, and it doesn't look as if he has plans to head back to North America quite yet.
