There aren't many things in the world of music that haven't been heard of, or been done before, but a double EP has got to be right up there, and a double EP contained on just one disc just might take top spot. Prepare to be amazed, because the 'Late Bloomer/Sore Loser' double-EP is ready for release on November 17th.
The mastermind behind the whole project is Toronto singer/songwriter Rob Szabo. The 'Late Bloomer/Sore Loser' double-EP is, in fact, comprised of two completely separate 3-song EPs. There is logical reasoning behind the split; the first half - the 'Late Bloomer' EP - is a rocking, heavy batch of songs, and the second half - the 'Sore Loser' EP - is a mellow, acoustic affair.
While the double-EP concept is a bit confusing at first, Szabo has complete faith in music fans. Through his web site, the singer admonishes: "People always tell me that 'the public' won't get it, and you know what? They're wrong. People DO get it. People appreciate it."
To celebrate the release of his creation, Szabo has a series of CD release shows lined-up around Ontario. There are four gigs scheduled in total, and they promise to be as unique as Szabo's double-EP. The performances will consist of two sets: an electric portion, and an acoustic portion, to match the album.
At Szabo's web site (www.robszabo.com) there is a much better explanation of the 'Late Bloomer/Sore Loser' double-EP, as well as clips of all six songs featured on the record. 'We're All Alcoholics' featured on the 'Late Bloomer' EP, and 'Good Son' from the 'Sore Loser' half, are both available as full mp3 downloads.
