November Brings Soundtracks Galore

Published: 2004-11-01
In the next two weeks some of the most highly anticipated soundtracks of the year will be hitting shelves across the country. Artists as diverse as Kylie Minogue and The Darkness, Avril Lavigne and Motorhead, and Breaking Benjamin and Hoobastank will miraculously appear on the same disc.

Set for release on November 9th are both 'The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie' soundtrack, and the musical companion to Xbox video game 'Halo 2'. In addition to the score to the game (arranged by Martin O'Donnel and Michael Salvatori'), songs from Breaking Benjamin and Hoobastank will be included on the album. The most interesting bit of the soundtrack may be Incubus' contribution; the Californian rockers wrote a four-movement suite called 'The Odyssey' specifically for the game.

Kid's flick 'The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie' is also making quite a buzz with its soundtrack line-up. Featuring newly recorded tracks from The Flaming Lips, The Shins, Motorhead, and Avril Lavigne, the background music for a semi-psychotic sponge and his adventures has some heavy-hitters. Not only will these famous names appear on the soundtrack, but characters SpongeBob and Patrick will also add a few spots.

Another album that has people talking is the soundtrack for 'Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason' (released on November 16th). The sequel to the 2001 blockbuster 'Bridget Jones's Diary' will boast new tracks from some of Britain's biggest musical names, as well as previously released material. Canadian crooner Rufus Wainwright has teamed up with popstar Dido to record a duet version of his mother's song 'I Eat Dinner'. Pop Idol winner Will Young, and vocalist Jamie Cullum will contribute covers of 'Your Love Is King' and 'Everlasting Love' respectively. Joss Stone, Kylie Minogue, and The Darkness add a few of their hits to the mix as well.
