Like its counterpart the Pop Montreal festival, the 2004 Halifax Pop Explosion will showcase some of the best new bands in music. Held on from November 4th to November 6th, the Halifax Pop Explosion will inhabit many of the venues in the Maritime city. There will be about 60 bands featured in the music festival, which was founded in 1993 and is one of the biggest events in Atlantic Canada.
Quite a mix of bands from all over the world are appearing at the Halifax Pop Explosion this year. From country to funk-punk to hip hop, the line-up includes the likes of Oh Susanna, Despistado, controller.controller, The Organ, and The Wrens, among many others. Some of the biggest draws of the festival are bound to be Montreal's The Arcade Fire and Toronto's The Hidden Cameras, two of the most adored Canadian acts around.
The venues participating in this year's Halifax Pop Explosion are: The Marquee Club & Hell's Kitchen, The Khyber, Seahorse Tavern, The Attic, Stage Nine, The Pavilion, and St. Matthew's United Church. More information on the location of the venues, as well as a full schedule, can be found at the Explosion's official website located at www.halifaxpopexplosion.com.
In addition to the music component of the Halifax Pop Explosion, there are also other media outlets featured. The Indie Zine and Label Fair will feature film screenings, and public readings from 'zine authors, as well as workshops and showcases.
