Flaming Lips Prepare Film, Book, and Album

Published: 2004-10-12
Although Oklahoma's The Flaming Lips do not have a new album coming out this year, there are a few other projects concerning Wayne Coyne and Co. ready to hit the market. November will see the release of a book of Flaming Lips photographers J. Michelle Martin and Jay Blakesburg pictures of the band. It's a collector's item so only 1,500 copies are being made, but all of the copies will be signed by both the band members and the photographers.

There is also a documentary about The Flaming Lips being readied for theatres across the continent. Made by Bradley Beesley, the as-yet-untitled project hasn't a release date yet, but can be expected by Lips fans soon.

While most people would rather get their hands on The Flaming Lips' music, they will have to wait a bit longer. The band has been in the studio since the summer working on what will become their twelfth full-length album. It has a working title of 'At War With The Mystics', but the prospective release date is a little foggier. The band says it "may well be released in 2005", but there is no solid timeline. Two of the songs that have already been completed for 'At War With The Mystics' are called 'Mr. Ambulance Driver' and 'Space Bible'. The album will be the follow up to 2002's 'Yoshimi Battles the Pink Robots'.

For those who can't wait until 2005 for some new Flaming Lips material, the band has contributed a song to the 'Spongebob Squarepants' movie. Called 'Patrick and Spongebob Confront The Psychic Wall of Energy', the soundtrack is set for release on November 9th.
