Brian Wilson Hits the Open Road

Published: 2004-09-30
Many people around the world were excited to hear that legendary musician Brian Wilson had put himself back on the touring circuit. While Wilson has only brought his live show to the UK so far, the musician is ready to bring his tour back to his home continent. The 23-date tour, which includes two nights at Carnegie Hall in New York, has just one Canadian stop scheduled. Brian Wilson will appear in Toronto, Ontario on October 6th at Massey Hall.

Wilson is touring in support of two albums this fall. The first is 'Gettin' In Over My Head' which was generally ill-received by most critics. The record was released in June, but it's the second album that Wilson is promoting that is much more interesting to music fans.

This past Tuesday (September 28th), the world finally saw the release of 'SMiLE'. An album of amazing mythical status, 'SMiLE' is The Beach Boys album that never was. Originally slated for release during the highly inventive year of 1967, 'SMiLE' was a record left unfinished. The reason the album was never fully recorded is because Brian Wilson had a bit of a breakdown, preventing any further work (immortalized in The Barenaked Ladies song 'Brian Wilson').

Wilson recorded 'SMiLE' once again - this time finishing the album - which has people wading through all the lore built up around the record. There are music clips and a history of 'SMiLE' available at HYPERLINK "" .

Brian Wilson is, of course, most famous for being a member of The Beach Boys. Really the mastermind behind The Beach Boys, Wilson is responsible for the landmark album 'Pet Sounds'. Known as the record that sparked The Beatles into creating the equally legendary 'Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band', Brian Wilson and 'Pet Sounds' are responsible for a rock'n'roll musical revolution.
