The Cottars Join The Chieftains On TV Special

Published: 2004-09-22
Every once and a while in life there's a group of people who make the average person feel unimaginable lazy. The Cottars would be one of these groups. Ranging from the ages of 14-17, the four members of the Cottars have travelled all over the world, playing their music for fans of all ages and nationalities.

The band hails from Cape Breton, and consists of two sibling pairs: Roseanne and Jimmy MacKenzie and Fiona and Ciaran MacGillivray. It's not like the four teens are just a face for a backing band either; Roseanne – the youngest at 14 –is a bona fide fiddle prodigy, Jimmy plays guitar, Ciaran handles keyboards, and Fiona takes vocal duties.

Playing traditional Celtic music, the quartet has already released two albums – 'Made In Cape Breton' and 'On Fire'. The Cottars' latest album was 'On Fire', which was just released this June. The high energy performances that the Cottars put forth were captured by none other than Irish Tenor John McDermott, who produced the band's album.

Catching the attention of everyone who hears of them, the Cottars were invited to appear on an upcoming television special. The famed Irish band the Chieftains are featured on the upcoming CBC event 'The Chieftains in Canada', which is airing on Sunday, September 26th at 7:00pm ET. Other guests on the one-hour special include members of Blue Rodeo and Jann Arden.

We just saw the Cottars in concert in Hartford Connecticut. It was an amazing experience and one of the most enjoyable and exciting musical performances I've ever had! Go see and hear them anywhere you get a chance, and you'll see greatness freshly blooming!
