Boy, Oh Boy! Boy Has a New Album

Published: 2004-09-08
Although the Territories of Canada may not be the first place a person thinks of when someone says 'productive music scene', maybe it should be. Hailing from Whitehorse, Yukon, Stephen Kozmeniuk aka Boy is proof of that.

Kozmeniuk is preparing to release his second album under his musical alias, christening it 'Every Page You Turn'. The record will be available on October 12th through Maple Music Recordings. So far one single has been lifted off the disc; 'Same Old Song' can be heard on radio stations near you.

This new album will mark the first time Kozmeniuk has had the opportunity to reach a large audience. Boy's first self-titled album, originally released in 2002, came into the world with just 500 copies to its name. Though a larger label picked up the Britpop tinged record later, 'Every Page You Turn' will be Kozmeniuk's biggest release yet.

Inspired by the greats of music – your Elton Johns, your Beatles, etc – Kozmeniuk hopes to do justice to the art form, but not by copying his heroes. Speaking of his influences, Kozmeniuk said, "It's not about copying old stuff. It's about giving it a nod and knowing what is relevant."

It can only be a matter of time before Kozmeniuk tours Canada, and rest assured he's had lots of practice at it. After leaving the comfort of the North behind, Boy has played with Broken Social Scene, the Dears and Sam Roberts, among many other notable Canadian acts.
