Explosions in the Sky Captivate Canada

Published: 2004-09-01
Texan band Explosions in the Sky have a 25 date tour of North America lined up for this October. The group has a total of three Canadian stops, all of them taking place in Ontario and Quebec.

Similar to Canada's own Godspeed You! Black Emperor, Explosions in the Sky is of a rare breed that can translate powerful emotions through songs devoid of lyrics. Picking up their band name after watching Fourth of July fireworks, Explosions in the Sky are aptly named. Their website claims that the four-piece is "possibly the loudest live band ever".

To date, Explosions in the Sky have released two studio albums. 'Earth Is Not A Cold Dead Place' was put on shelves in November of 2003 by Temporary Residence records. The record only houses five tracks, but each one reaches over eight minutes in length. The band's debut album 'Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Die, Those Who Tell The Truth Shall Live Forever' was released in late 2001. Once again, the album has just six tracks, with the longest playing for over twelve minutes.

Explosions in the Sky's Canadian performances:

October 09 Montreal – La Sala Rossa
October 10 Hamilton – Corktown
October 11 Toronto – Horseshoe Tavern

This is one of the most incredible bands in the history of music. Anyone and everyone who has the patience and mindset to sti down and listen to every second of every song will agree with me. I have never fallen back on the same band for longer than a few months, and I have been listening to Those Who Tell the Truth, and The Earth is not a Cold Dead Place since 2003. This is some of the most triumphant and passionate music ever to be looked over by the mainstream audience...second in my heart's eye only to Mogwai. All hail the return of emotion to music.
