The Libertines Set To Play Canada

Published: 2004-09-01
Yesterday (August 31st) saw the release of the Libertines' self-titled sophomore effort. In order to support a new album it's always wise for a band to go on tour, which is just what the Libs are doing. The band will be flying (currently minus co-frontman Peter Doherty) across the Atlantic to play a series of dates in North America.

The tour has a total of 18 scheduled dates, with three of them falling on Canadian soil. The band will kick off the tour in Vancouver on September 27th, finishing in the south-eastern state of Florida on October 22nd.

The Libertines have already played what may be thought of as warm-up dates in North America. On August 17th Carl Barat, Gary Powell, John Hassall and a fill-in guitarist stormed New York, then jetted to the opposite side of the USA to play a gig in Los Angeles on August 19th. If it's any indication of what the proper tour will be like, both August shows were completely sold out.

Supporting the Libertines on their US dates is New York funk-punk band Radio 4. It's unclear who will be opening for the guys during their Canadian stops.

The Libertines' upcoming gigs:

September 27 Vancouver – Richard's On Richards
October 15 Toronto – Opera House
October 16 Montreal – Cabaret la Tulipe
