Gospel Singers Finalists In Indonesian Idol

The final two contestants competing for Indonesian Pop Idol in the most populated Muslim country are two Christian gospel singers. The winner will be announced on Sept 4. The fact that the finalists are Christian does not seem to bother Muslim fans and voters who have had conflicts in the past over the religions. "This is just a singing contest," said one fan. Both contestants have been singing since they were six years old.

In other "Pop Idol" news, the Arab world crowned the Libyan contestant as their new Idol. In an Idol contest that crossed country borders, the final two contestants were Libyan singer Ayman al-A'tar and Palestinian, Ammar Hassan. The vote came down to selecting al-A'tar with 54 percent of the votes over Ammar who won 46 percent. Some Palestinian fans criticized their fellow countrymen for not supporting their own by voting.

This year (Indonesian Idol II), top 12 dominated by christian singers as well. In grand final Mike beats Judika, both are christians,,,,good christians. Indonesia consists of about 300 ethnics, talented singers usually come from Batak and Ambon ethnics, and most of Batak & Ambon people are christians. Probably, we would always have christian idol or christian winner in any other singing contest forever. No one can beats Bataknese or Ambonese in singing here.
