Compilations Remember Count Basie With Celebration Of 100th

Published: 2004-08-20
Rock and Roll is here to stay but good music never dies. "Jeepers Creepers" they're "Jumpin' at the Woodside" and on "Avenue C" with the "Boogie Woogie" and "One O'Clock Jump" as bandmaster William "Count" Basie hits 100. On August 24, three days after the birth date of Basie, Blue Note Records is releasing two CD packages of the big band leader's music.

The first is a re-issue of the two disc "The Count Basie Story" which was originally compiled for an anniversary release in 1960.

The second set is also a two disc set. "Count Basie and Friends 100th Birthday Bash" is a 28 track package of songs recorded in the 1950s. The "friends" is a virtual who's who of music stars from the era. Sarah Vaughan, Tony Bennett, Nat King Cole, Joe Williams, and Illinois Jacquet, among others, all make appearances on the "Count Basie and Friends" CD package.

Many of Basie's original fans are gone but his music lives on to inspire and captivate new audiences.
