The finalists for Season of two of Canadian Idol are not only singers, but musicians as well. And to prove it, the six remaining contestants will pick up their instruments on Thursday's Canadian Idol show. Thursday's show will mark the first time on an Idol program that the competitors play an instrument on the Idol stage. Fans who followed George Canyon on Nashville Star will remember that performers played their own instruments every week on the show.

The theme for this week's Canadian Idol is the music of Canadian folk legend Gordon Lightfoot. As a part of Thursday's results show Lightfoot will make a rare appearance to perform. Beginning this week, the Thursday results show on Canadian Idol will expand to one hour for the remainder of the season. Also scheduled to perform on Thursday is one of last season's top 10, Orange Record's artist, Billy Klippert.

In other Canadian Idol news, the runner up from season one of Canadian Idol Gary Beals releases his debut album today - August 17. Beals co-wrote all but one of the songs on the album. The only cover song is "Angel" by Sarah McLachlan. Beals recorded his self titled album over the winter.
